Ta’ang people in Kachin State ordered to return to their Home Towns

On June 1st 2011, U Lum Hkaun who leads the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) in Bamaw Township, Kachin State directed Palaung workers within in the division No. 5 area of KIA to return to their home towns.
Ta’ang (Palaung) employees had migrated to the Kachin area in order to be able to work with other charcoal workers, teak traders, and other enterprises. Workers from the region have said that the probable reason that the KIA have ordered the Ta’ang people to return is because of the conflict taking place in Kachin state .
This announcement has been declared for the essential security of public after the unexpected civil war broke out between the Burmese military and the Kachin Independence Army (KIA).
