Authorities putting security in place around Ruili electric power a cause of community discontent

According to local authority’s orders the police and militia are watching the Ruili electric power very closely. This has been happening since third week of April 2010 in Shan State (north), Muse district, Numkham Township in Mantak Ruili electric power.

The reason for this occurrence is because when the communities are using the electric from china they have a rapport, and after they have to change and use the Myanmar Ruili electric power, they are often faced with a shortage of electricity problem. Although, this happens the community still have to pay for electricity every month. Moreover, Myanmar Ruili electric power fee is not pleasant for the community and even though, they are giving the electric fee regularly, they oftentimes do not have electricity for whole month. As a result of this, the communities around the Ruili electric power are discontent.

“Currently, we have heard a lot of explosions, the communities do not get the electricity from this Ruili electric power and they are discontent. We worry that the local people will detonate the Ruili electric power called Ruili dam and the militia will come and take a security base here.” said a guard of Ruili electric power.

”After we have changed the electric meter box, we do not get the electric regularly. Thus, even we do not get it we have to give one thousand for meter box maintenance not only that one but also the community people are really discontent because of the change of electricity supply. During Myanmar water festival, we did not have any electric and the Kaung Tak villagers went and argued with electrical office. Therefore, they put all at Ruili dam at a security risk because they afraid of that local people will detonate the Ruili dam” one woman who lives in Namkham Township said

“Some villages have asked the authority if they can return their meter box fee and some have got one third of their money, some do not get anything they are discontent” she continued to say.

The bombs that explored during water festival do not have any benefit to the people and it result is only losing the damming electricity. For this reason, the authority put in security at Ruili dam.
